Who’s Who

The Instigator & The Co-Conspirator

Since 2008, Jessa has been the brains and Nathan has been the brawn of HomeGrown HideAways, a hundred-acre farm, lodging, and event facility in the foothills of Appalachia near Berea, the arts and crafts capital of Kentucky.

From tents to treehouses and pontoon rides to weddings, great memories start at HomeGrown HideAways.

(Yes - we are essentially a 2-person operation so that means we do EVERYTHING from the mowing, weeding, and trail clearing to the marketing, cleaning, and book-keeping. If we look exhausted, this is probably why.)

Jessa Turner

Jessa has traversed 48 states and 10 countries in search of the ground beneath her feet. Her wings are slowly transforming into roots buried deep in her home state of Kentucky, where she graduated with a degree in Sustainability and Environmental Studies from Berea College.

Her chosen mission is to figure out how to pet ALL the dogs and to convince her husband that it's her job to have the ideas and his job to help make them reality. (So far, so good.)

Nathan Turner

Nathan is HomeGrown HideAways' jack-of-all-trades. He has a degree in Culinary Arts & Hospitality Management, but is also a Talented Tinkerer, Happy Hunter, Master Mower, Charming Chicken Chaser, and Fancy Food Farmer.

He will gladly let you escort him into the woods during mushroom season, but he probably just hopes the ticks and thorns will like you better than they like him.

If all that weren't enough, Nathan is also a member of the Red Lick Volunteer Fire Department. Lest you think they might be siblings, Nathan has somehow managed not to lose the entirety of his sanity being married to Jessa since April of 2002 (assuming he had some sanity to begin with).

We Hope You Like Dogs!

You can't bring yours, but you can pet (most of) ours - EmmyLou, Sadie Blue, St. Bernice, & Foster.

*We really need to update this section as EmmyLou & Foster have both passed, Grippo is the newest addition (no pets for this shy rescue), and the two cats, Deathtrap and Booger, are mad that they've never been included. All the critters are facebook famous, though.*

Amazing stay as always! We took advantage of the boat ride and swimming on the river again, twice seeing a bald eagle flying low across the river in front of us. We highly recommend this add-on if you have the time! We look forward to our next visit.

We stayed here for the weekend while hosting our wedding on the main HomeGrown HideAways property.

A handwritten welcome note greeted us and had all the details we needed for our stay. Having a private space to escape to at the end of the night was perfect. The house was so cozy and comfortable. We slept great and were relaxed and rested for our big day. We didn't get to use the kitchen much, but it was well equipped and charming.

This is a delightful campground! The hosts are very accommodating. It is peaceful and quiet. The babbling creek will lull you to sleep and the community building is amazing. The pictures are great but the facility is even better in person. It is out in the country but close to Berea, with lots to do. It would be a great location if you're interested in doing a craft retreat. I hope to return and stay longer next time. Fantastic hosts!

I stayed here with my four year old and friends, and this was the perfect weekend outdoors getaway. The property is perfect for kids to run around and play. The accommodations were clean and had plenty of space to relax (covered patio, porch with rocking chairs, campfires). And the kitchen space was extremely well equipped. Just such an easy and fun weekend.

Jessa and her husband are amazing hosts! They brought tubes out for the kids to play in the creek, which was a huge hit! Our group had a wonderful time. There's plenty of space to roam on the property, the kitchen makes camping life a breeze and was nice to cool down for a minute since the 100°F weather. We always find something new to love every time we come. I'm already ready to book the next trip!
